Writing Journal, 10 January 2024: Slow start to 2024 – but perhaps some hope

It seems a little bit like a first world problem to be getting down about only writing 1,000-plus words in a week when I could be homeless in the snowstorm smashing through Iowa at this moment.

For the past three weeks, my numbers have been hovering just under or over the 2,000 word mark, including the most recent ones. My wife is going to be headed to the new apartment as of today, while I stay behind and finish out the school year at my current school district/place of employment. It’s going to be pretty quiet at the house with no wife, no dog, and definitely no kids. I’ll let you know how it goes.

As for last week’s totals… they didn’t suck, but they weren’t up to my standards at all. I think I’ve been stalled regarding a couple of projects I’ve been working on (The Yank Striker 2, cough cough), but I think I have a way of finally wrapping up the scene I’m on and moving forward1.

Here’s the totals.

Writing statistics for the week ending 6 January 2024:
1,780 words written.
Days writing: 3 out of 7.
Days revising/planning 4 out of 7 for 510 minutes.
Daily Writing Goals Met: 6 out of 7 days.

More consistency, mind, but not as high regarding the raw numbers. I was happy I broke my previous records of most words written in a year and the most times I met my daily quotas, but that was 2023 and this is 2024. I need to get back on track. Hopefully, my plans to move forward will have some effect.

See you then.
