I was really worried that as I reviewed the results for the first half of 2020, I would find that I really underperformed compared to 2018 and 2019, which would have been really embarrassing considering we are in the middle of a pandemic and if you are really writing, now would be the time to get things done.
However, I was pleasantly surprised by the results.
Here, now, is the 1st half results for the year 2020. To understand the numbers, all writing numbers relate to the total number of words that I have written in a given time. All numbers having to do with planning and/or revising refer to the number of minutes dedicated to that activity. Finally, the Daily Writing Goals Met (DWGM) numbers refer to the percentage of times that I met my DWGM numbers during a particular week or month (At least 500 words per day or 30 minutes of planning/revisions).
Here are the numbers for the first half of 2020:
1st half: Words (total): 114,459
Words (avg.) 19,077
Revise/Plan (total): 2,340
Revise/Plan (avg.) 390
DWGM (avg.): 66%
At first, I worried that I wasn’t progressing as much as I had for the past two years (the years that I used the same criteria to judge my writing progress. As it turned out, however, looking back on the two previous years (2018 and 2019), I have been making progress. Observe:
2019 1st half of the year statistics:
1st half of 2019:
Words (total): 76,038
Words (avg.): 12,673
Revise/Plan (total): 3,495
Revise/Plan (avg.) 583
DWGM (avg.): 67%
2018 1st half the year statistics:
Words (total): 31,683
Words (avg.): 5,281
Revisions (total): 3,965
Revisions (avg.): 661
DWGM (avg.): 43%
So, in all categories, I am making consistent growth and progress over a three-year period. Great to see that I am increasing my production, no matter what that looks like.
I’ll be interested to see what the end of year stats look like.
Writers. keep writing, and everyone else keep safe.
