Writing Journal 12.28.2020: Guess who got really lazy this month? Me.

[Author’s Note: The feature photo for this post is my bed because since I’ve been so lazy, that seems to be the only thing that could properly symbolize the past three weeks for me. Anyway, enjoy.]

Where, oh where has Liegois been for the past few weeks? The mind reels…

Actually, it’s not too hard of an explanation to make. Since I’ve decided to make time out of my busy schedule (during winter break, ha ha) to sit down and post a blog, I might as well give as full of an explanation as I can.

– As usual, a hiatus in my writing means that I’m stuck on something that I’d rather not finish or I’m not in the mood to finish. Usually, I get around that by writing the exciting parts of a story I’m working on first and then maybe get to the sucky parts later (or maybe not, and all the better for it). It’s difficult to do this in the serialized fan fiction that I’m working on at the moment.

If there is one way COVID-19 has affected me personally (and let me hope that is the only way it affects me), it and my move out to south central Iowa has put a bit of a damper on any attempts at “serious” writing. It’s usually not a good idea to try and have meet and greets and signings for books in the midst of a pandemic, I’m still not knowledgeable about the writing scene here and in Des Moines, and my day job has been taking up a lot of my head space. Bottom line, that has been put on hold. (Maybe now was a good time to get into writing some fan fiction?)

Anyway, I’ve pushed through the writing blocks, taken all of the mental vacations possible, and now I’m getting back to writing. I never really stopped, actually, except for a few days in a row. It’s certainly not the type of production I was hoping for. Here’s to a massively productive last week of 2020 to put me over the top.

I’m not sure what my numbers are looking like for this year, to be honest. People who have read this before might know I keep track of that metadata. I’ll have to get a new “in-review” post for 2020 ready soon, maybe as soon as this week. Next week I’ll have off for part of it, but I’ll have to get work done once again.

Also, all of my posting on my social media sites for writing on Facebook and Twitter have dwindled down to just reposts of my blogs. I’m really not as enthused about posting regularly as I used to be. I’m not spending as much time as I used to on social media at all.

Part of that is my growing distaste for Facebook in particular, for the misinformation and basically racist material it has allowed to be posted on its site. It’s very clear to me that the only thing it cares about is cash. The only reason I maintain an account on Facebook now (I deleted the app from my phone for the fifth time last month and that has finally stuck) is to keep in contact with family and old friends. I have a small bit of nostalgia for my Facebook writing page because it was the first one I created under my own name. (I am slightly more active on my writing Twitter, but not by much.)

The minute there is a better alternative out there for me, I will be happy to move to that place. If the federal government wants to break up Facebook for monopoly purposes, I would be one of the first ones applauding. (End of semi-political rant.)

Now, it will be time to write to my heart’s content and get a whole bunch of things accomplished in the last week of the year, write some more blogs that have been lingering around in my drafts ahahahah…

Well, we’ll see what I actually accomplish.

Anyway, here’s the stats. Writers keep writing and everyone keep safe.
