Hi to everyone, and I will apologize for the repetitive nature of these word count/stats posts. I have explained in the past the reason for these posts, but I’ll do it again briefly for those recent readers of my blog.
In short, the reason I started posting exactly how much I’ve written over the course of the previous week is due to accountability. For years, I considered myself a writer but went for months and even years without writing a single bit of fiction or nonfiction on my own. I eventually realized that I was going to have to motivate myself, figure out a way to celebrate my writing successes, and figure out a way to motivate myself if I wasn’t being productive.
Publicly posting what I’ve written so the world can see has been that accountability for me. For any that might question whether or not I’m making up the numbers I’ve posted here, all I would say to that is that if I was going to make up numbers for myself they would be a lot more impressive than they have been over the years. Over that time, I’ve refined my journal, improved upon it, and seen my numbers gradually going up. Like I say to other writers and/or students: if something works for you in the writing process, keep using it.
As for my numbers this week, there was a very slight dip in the number of hours I spent revising and planning on writing, but in all other categories I saw improvement. I would love to have seen the numbers for last week be more than 4,000, but I still feel like I had an improved week.
Anyway, here’s the stats for last week.
Writing statistics for the week ending 11 February 2023:
+3,969 words written.
Days writing: 5 of 7.
Days revising/planning: 4 of 7 for 300 total minutes.
Daily Writing Goals Met (500+ words or 30 minutes of planning/revisions): 7 of 7 days.
Blatant Plug for a Personal Appearance In Johnston, Iowa below
Just a reminder, my first public appearance of the new year will be coming up very soon – two weeks from now, as a matter of fact.
I’ll be participating in the Local Author Fair at the Johnston Public Library on Saturday, February 25. I’ll be out there with many other area authors from 2 to 4 p.m. that day. I’ll bring myself and copies of The Holy Fool for purchase, and I’ll also be there to talk about my upcoming series The Yank Striker. Thanks to the Johnston Public Library for the invitation, and I look forward to meeting old friends and new acquaintances there.
