Writing Journal, 9 August 2023: Picking up a little bit as school approaches

How is everyone?

The past week has been… not horrific from a writing productivity perspective. In fact, in previous days, when I first started keeping track of my writing productivity week in and week out, I would have applauded what I racked up last week.

However, I believe I’m continuing, as I mentioned in previous journals, to be more demanding of myself as time goes on. To paraphrase the Olympic motto, higher, faster, further, right? I would like the words I have written to be a higher percentage of original fiction, especially for the book The Yank Striker 2 (working title) I’m starting to put together right now. I’d like my numbers to be maybe 1,000-2,000 higher, since I still am on summer break (for one more week).

Anyway, if I look at the numbers objectively this week, I can’t convincingly complain about them. They are definitely above pace for me to make my minimum 200,000 words for 2023 mark, and I’m still well above pace to meet my daily writing goals at least 75 percent of the time. Here’s the numbers.

Writing statistics for the week ending 5 August 2023:
4,709 words written.
Days writing: 5 of 7.
Days revising/planning: 2 of 7 for 120 total minutes.
Daily Writing Goals Met (500+ words or 30 minutes of planning/revisions): 7 of 7 days.

That’s it for now. I’m going to make one more trip back to my hometown for a few days before the school year starts. Those of you still on summer break, I hope you’ve had an enjoyable one, and I hope everyone else is getting the rest and relaxation they need one way or another. Take care.
