This week went pretty well, writing-wise.
I’ve certainly had more productive weeks from a sheer wordcount standpoint, though my numbers are definitely above average from my target of just over 4,000 words per week.
Despite the fact I was writing every day, there was one day I didn’t make it to my target of 500 per day. Honestly, you have to give yourself permission to have a low writing day. As long as you are producing some writing, it’s a good thing.
Also, sometimes you have to consider the type of writing you are working on as well. For those who write poetry primarily, for example, those word counts can be small.
In my case, I was concentrating on getting one fiction project further along than it was, and sometimes that can involve staring at a screen more than typing out words. The project is actually the second book in my series (Working title: The Yank Striker 2), and I’ve been really happy with the progress I’ve been making on the rough draft this week. I’m more than 26,000 words in so far, and I’m probably going to settle on a working draft somewhere in the neighborhood of 60,000-65,000 words.
As of right now, I’ve set a goal of having the book ready for publication about June 2024. This is a pretty ambitious goal, considering I’ve never tried to put together a book in a single calendar year. One advantage I have, however, is I already have the main idea for the story set and much of the research already done, so no issue there. If some of these authors, even part-time ones, can put out books every year or less, I should be able to manage to do it myself.
Anyway, here’s the stats for last week.
Writing statistics for the week ending 14 October 2023:
4.470 words written.
Days writing: 7 of 7.
Days revising/planning: 3 of 7 for 120 total minutes.
Daily Writing Goals Met (500+ words or 30 minutes of planning/revisions): 6 of 7 days.
That’s it for now. See you later.
