Hi, everyone.
Writing productivity went off a cliff this week of Thanksgiving, although there’s no way I’m going to blame the holiday for that dip in work. Especially not one where I’ve only written one day during a five-day period running from the end of last week to the beginning of the first.
As I mentioned last week, there were a couple of IRL issues in the background which were frankly distracting me from even thinking about writing. (These are starting to resolve themselves, so I might get into them in more detail on the newsletter this weekend.)
As much as writing can distract me from negative feelings or worries or uncertainties about future plans, sometimes they start wheels spinning in my head usually turned by writing. And in the end, sometimes I have to let those wheels spin around and idle out before I can move forward. Sometimes, I have to let the wheels run down by watching Premier League football, Formula 1 racing, or random things like the Mystery Science Theater 3000 annual Turkey Day 48-hour marathon. It’s my culture, don’t judge.
However, I did produce two good new poems last week, so I was pretty happy with them as well as their related post last weekend. I need to do more poetry, because I find I’m stretching myself as a writer in the process, especially refining my word choice skills. Using the right words to evoke certain feelings is very important in poetry, where every word has to do work, so to speak.
Anyway, here’s the numbers.
Writing statistics for the week ending 11 November 2023:
2,850 words written.
Days writing: 4 of 7.
Days revising/planning: 1 of 7 for 30 total minutes.
Daily Writing Goals Met (500+ words or 30 minutes of planning/revisions): 4 of 7 days.
This dry streak has to stop sometime. Maybe later this week. Hope springs eternal. Anyway, more later.
