For the first time in a while, longer than I recall, I’m behind the pace on my writing.
There have been a few weeks where my output has been (in the most generous of descriptions) sub-par. If I want to write at least 200,000 words in a year (which I committed to at the start of the year), I need to average at least 16,667 words per month. According to my calculations, I could very well fall short of this by as much as 5,000 words if I don’t pull my head out if the sand before the month is up.
I remember last week talking about feeling unsettled in my current life situation, and I think that unsettled emotion is what often leaves me personally in a mental state where it feels like, even subconsciously, there’s no point in progressing towards things when it feels like I’m waiting on so many things to happen. My wife has started her new job and is in our new apartment, while I’m still in the old house and waiting for what I’ll be doing next year. We’re in the process of selling our house, but it’s still in the early stages. I feel like I’m waiting on other circumstances to happen before I can take steps forward.
However, I can choose to make however many excuses I want, it’s still not going to get words onto the page/electronic document. At a certain point, explanations become excuses, and causes lead into inevitable effects. At a certain point, I need to get myself behind a laptop and start typing, even if what I produce is garbage.
Here’s the totals for last week.
Writing statistics for the week ending 20 January 2024:
1,952 words written.
Days writing: 3 of 7.
Days revising/planning: 4 of 7 for 180 total minutes.
Daily Writing Goals Met (500+ words or 30 minutes of planning/revisions): 5 of 7 days.
I’ve written something for the past three days. At this point, I’ll consider it a small win.
See you later.
