I’m not 100 percent sure about this, but I think I am in the beginning of a turnaround when it comes to writing productivity.
I’m not going to pat myself on the back for this. I’ve been under-performing for too long this year, for obvious reasons stemming from my excessive commuting and traveling due to work and family issues. However, I’ve now had a chance to actually not drive all over the place and get caught up on writing. The results have been… good?
Writing statistics for the week ending 8 June 2024:
5,671 words written.
Days writing: 5 of 7.
Days revising/planning: 2 of 7 for 120 total minutes.
Daily Writing Goals Met (500+ words or 30 minutes of planning/revisions): 6 of 7 days.
For any other week, this would be good. Right now, I see it as a start.
Normally, anything above 4,000 words a week would be a good pace for me to reach my self-imposed minimum quota of 200,000 words written for the calendar year. But since I’ve been behind for a long while, I’m going to have to pick up the pace for the next at least 8 1/2 weeks I have for summer vacation. I’m not going to have time for the summer slumps I’ve dealt with in some years past.
Right now, to have any chance of catching up to my quota is to write at least 6,000-7,000 words per week for this time period, which would translate into 860-1,000 words per day. Will I be able to maintain that pace? I have on a weekly basis, but not so much for an extended period.
If there was any point to this blog and to publicly posting my word counts for every week, however, it was as a challenge to myself to do more and be more productive. And this will definitely be a challenge.
Catch everyone later.
