Writing Journal, 11 September 2024: September starts strong

[AUTHOR’S NOTE: The pics I usually include nowadays for these writing journals are pics of my own bookcases and personal book collections. As I and my wife will be moving from our current apartment to a new house in Fort Madison, I’ll likely have to be taking some updated photos of the collection. See if you can tell the difference in a few months when it starts happening.]

Last week wasn’t quite as good as my previous week, but I still consider it to be better than many of my weeks recently, much better than all of the weeks in August except the last one, actually. Here’s the numbers:

Again, these totals were slightly lower than last week. However, to meet my yearly writing quota (I’m no longer calling it my yearly writing goal since it is the minimum amount of writing I hope to get done), I have to write an estimated 3,846 words per week. By this measure, 4,200 words a week is respectable, anywhere close to 5,000 words is a good effort, and 5,500 and above is over the moon.

So, by those standards, last week was good.

Beyond the statistics, I’m gratified I’ve been working on a variety of projects this week, including The Yank Striker 2 (still a working title, but I believe I’m settling in a permanent one), the Untitled Pro Wrestling Family Project, as well as a touch of fan fiction and revising this poetry project I’ve been tooling around on. I’m hopeful all of it means I’m not going to spend time just staring at a screen wondering where to start as I did some in July and August. I still have ambitions of completing a rough draft for The Yank Striker 2 by the end of the year. If I continue to work on it as regularly as I have for the past couple of weeks, I think my odds of getting the rough draft done are slightly better than even. (Now if I can find some good beta readers and someone interested in putting together some cover art, I’ll be set.)

I’m also glad I’ve been able to keep up a good writing pace even with me now well into the swing of the school year and the obvious time commitments it entails. Pretty soon, I will be busy helping my wife with the move in to the new house, which will be another thing to fit into the schedule for the next few months or so.

[I’m just realizing now since 2019, I have had three different permanent residences and two other semi-permanent residences I’ve spent more than a month staying in due to various life experiences. This new house will be my fourth since 2019. I’m hoping I won’t have to move for a while to come.]

Last year, I set a new personal record of 215,152 words. What else are records for except to be broken, right? That’s how I see it.

Take care, everyone, and I’ll shout out next week.
