Writing Journal, 9 October 2024: Diving into October

Still posting autumn pictures here until actual autumn weather arrives. We’ve had some in Iowa, but we keep getting 80 degree-plus days. I want it to be cooler. May the electronic wishes come true.

Well, I wasn’t quite expecting the second-biggest fourth-biggest fifth-biggest week of the entire year last week either. It’s been running hard especially at the start of last week, and I’m making progress on actual writing projects, not just odds and ends.

Here’s the numbers for last week.

My mini-goal to get my first draft of my sequel to The Yank Striker (working title, Yank Striker 2) and was to write an average of 250 words on the project per day to get to a level I was comfortable with for the first draft. about 1,750 words per week. I only got to 1,255 words, but it was still a lot more than I expected trying it for the first time. I’m still hoping to be done with the first draft by the end of the year and have it ready for publication by summer 2025.

I also got more writing done on the Untitled Wrestling Project. and I’m now somewhere around 22,000 words in the rough draft. I’m also trying to get a better handle on what is going to be happening in the remainder of the book.

Other than not getting quite as much written on The Yank Striker 2 than I wanted to, I really don’t have any complaints about how much I wrote last week.

I’m saving the complaints for the lack of fall weather. See you next week.
