Writing Journal, 16 October 2024: Inconsistent but not a big disaster

I’m posting one last autumn picture here as a victory lap. I do believe we have we have finally seen the last 80 degree-plus days in Iowa for this calendar year. If people in Iowa want sun and 80-90 degree weather in October and beyond, they can move to Texas if they’re desperate.

I wasn’t expecting the second-biggest fourth-biggest fifth-biggest week of the entire year an entirely rubbish week last week when it came to writing productivity. I’ve been relatively occupied with the move to my new house upcoming, and now my son has started this same process and we’ll be obliged to give him a little bit of a hand to help his transition, as well. That plus me being part of the Iowa City Book Festival’s own Local Author’s Book Fair means I’m going to keep busy this week.

Here’s the numbers for last week.

Yeah, not the result I was hoping for, and I have the above reason/reasons for it.

My mini-goal to get my first draft of my sequel to The Yank Striker (working title, Yank Striker 2) and was to write an average of 250 words on the project per day to get to a level I was comfortable with for the first draft. about 1,750 words per week. I got to over 1,630 words on the project this week, but it should be pretty close to the pace I need, given how much I’ve already written. I’m still hoping to be done with the first draft by the end of the year, so we’ll see how that goes.

Now it’s time to kick my tail into gear. See you around.
