Writing Journal 30 October 2024: 👎🏻for the week as I try to finish the month strong

For today’s post, I decided to take a pic of my new book shelves in my home office. You’re welcome.

This week might have been the weakest I’ve had from a new writing productivity standpoint, although I did do a good amount of revising and some planning. As I’ll explain later, there was a lot of real life stuff that either got in the way or frankly wore me out mentally. I’ll get into it below.

First, the raw numbers.

Again, when looking at the raw new numbers, this might have been the worst week of the year yet, even though I did take time revising and planning during the week. I find this time is a bit of an easier strain on the brain in part because I don’t feel the pressure of producing so many excess of words. This is despite the fact I consider revising to be the main heart of writing, without which most writing just falls flat or far short of the author’s intent. You literally can’t produce good writing without it.

The basic fact of the previous week is I and my wife (and she did a good majority of the work, it must be said) were busy hauling boxes and belongings from our previous apartment to our new home, also in Fort Madison, as well as work and cleaning in both places. It wears you out both physically and mentally. Thank goodness we had a long weekend so we could look over the move and get everything pretty much where we needed it to be by the time we were staying at the house.

Hopefully, now I’ve settled in and don’t have to worry for a long time to come, I’m hoping I’ll be able to pick up the pace and finish strong for the month and the rest of the year. So far, this year has been productive mostly, and I hope I can reach new heights by the end of it.

See you around.
