Writing Journal 6 November 2024: Improved finish for the month, but where does that leave me?

After the horrific week I had last week and the two mediocre ones preceding it, I was glad to have a week that from a productivity standpoint… wasn’t horrible. I spent some time crunching the numbers and estimating where this leaves me with my writing goals.

I’ll talk about how close I am to those goals after I post the numbers below.

So, where does that leave me regarding my goals? I’ll list them below and where I am in my progress toward each of them.

  • At least 200,000 words written for the 2024 calendar year. Bonus points if I made it past the all-time personal record of 215,152 words I set last year.
As of the beginning of November, I have accumulated a total of 183,679 words for 2024 to date. If I were to write 200,000 words for 2024, I should be at 166,667 words, so I am nearly 20,000 words ahead of my minimum pace.
I am currently 31,473 words away from matching last year’s total. With the time I have left in the year, I would have to write somewhere around 533 words per day to match it. That is… doable, but perhaps something of a challenge. I don’t have much more time to waste at this point.
  • Meeting my daily writing goals (at least 500 words written or 30 minutes spent revising or planning new work) at least 75 percent of the year.
This should be relatively easy. I may actually decide to raise this to 80 percent for the following year. I’ll think about it and whether I would care enough about the challenge.
  • (Recently added) complete my rough draft of The Yank Striker 2 (second in The Yank Striker series), which should be approximately 75,000 words, by the end of the calendar year.
As of this writing, I’ve completed 59,652 words in the rough draft. By my reckoning, I would have to average about 260 words on this project for the remainder of the year to get to this 75,000-word goal. My estimation; difficult, but not impossible.

I’ve finished the vast majority of the work we have to do for the new house now that we have fully moved in. Some of it we will complete on our own, while others we may have to wait for professional work. More than a little bit simply involves going through an odd number of boxes in our basement and storage areas and see where we should put what is inside those boxes. All being said, it will be a long but not massive process. I think I should be able to manage getting the writing I need done in the time I have.

See you around.
