Writing Journal 1 January 2025: Happy New Year while I’m still cleaning up after the old one

Happy New Year, everyone.

As this post is going live, I’m compiling my writing statistics for 2024. I don’t have those final numbers finished up just yet, but I should have them soon. As usual, I’ll make a separate post about those final numbers and writing goals, etc.

The fourth week of December 2024 was pretty slow in all honesty although I’ve been picking up the pace. Considering the family events and so forth during that time, I’m surprised I got any writing done.

Here’s the stats for last week.

2024 goals update:

  • At least 200,000 words written for the 2024 calendar year, and past my all-time personal record of 215,152 words I set last year.
As of the end of last week, I have written 221,714 words for the year 2024, a new personal best. I’ll have to see how much more I get written in 2024, but making the 220,000-word mark is pretty special. However, whether I get to 225,000 words is another issue.
  • Meeting my daily writing goals (at least 500 words written or 30 minutes spent revising or planning new work) at least 75 percent of the year.
    Done and dusted, complete.
  • Complete my rough draft of The Yank Striker 2 (second in The Yank Striker series), which should be approximately 75,000 words, by the end of the calendar year.
As of the end of last week, I’m now at 72,238 words on the rough draft. The jury is still out on this, but I think the final answer will be close but not quite. I still have a few more scenes to wrap up before I have a full rough draft.

The end of the year is here, my dears. All you writers keep writing and everyone keep safe.
