Writing Journal 8.4.2019: Still chugging along… and staring at deadlines

Well, I think I got things sorted, whatever the problem was.

Anyway, here’s my writing stats from last week. They’re much the same as last week’s.

+1,440 words written.

Days writing: 2 of 7.

Days revising/planning: 5 of 7 for 360 total minutes.

Daily Writing Goals Met (500+ words or 30 minutes of planning/revisions):  5 of 7 days.

One of the things I’ve noticed is that… hey, it’s August. And I’m running into some deadlines for my projects. Here’s a quick update on those that deserve updates.

  • Project A: Have my latest revision (call it version 4.2) done. Hope to have a beta proofread done soon, and then I will do another one on my own. Check out below for what I’m doing for finding agents/publishers.
  • Project B: Opened up the document for the first time in months today. Want to get some revisions done this week. If I really push it, regardless of any thoughts or hesitations I have on the material, I think this could be a good project to have ready pretty quickly.
  • Project C: I’m scouring my old notebooks for some poems I don’t have put down in my collection. After that, I want to see what possibilities there might be for publication (see below).
  • Project S: I want to get the final rough draft done by this week. Afterward, I want to share it on a fan fiction site to get some feedback and consider whether I even want to post it here. I’ll keep you updated.

All project details and current deadlines are here.

As for searching for agents/publishers, I’ve been pretty disappointed with my investigations on Writer’s Market. They no longer have simply online memberships, so you only can buy a paperback copy for $30 or so (no Kindle or ebook version) and $50 for a deluxe version that has the paperback and access to the web site for one year. It seems like a scam and no wonder those guys are not doing well financially, with that kind of charging. It reminds me of college textbooks.

As for me, I’m taking a look at Firstwriter.com’s book, Writer’s Handbook. I managed to get it in ebook format for a much lower price than Writer’s Market. I’m hoping that it might turn out to be a good resource. I’m starting to read through it, and I might wind up reviewing it here on the site after I’ve had some time to look at it.

Anyway, that’s all I have for now. I’ll check in with everyone later.
