Writing Journal 2019: Numbers from the first half of the year

OK, since it is now officially the first half of the year, I decided to do a midyear recap of my productivity during those first six months of 2019.

You will see:

  • Monthly totals and midyear totals for 2019.
  • The numbers for revisions/planning represent the total number of minutes I spent revising my work.
  • Daily Writing Goals Met (DWGM) – this represents whether I have met the goals I have set for myself writing on a daily basis. These goals are either at least 500 words per day or at least 30 minutes of revising existing work/planning for new projects. On my weekly updates, I usually tell you how many times I meet that goal per week; on this chart, however, I will list it as the percentage of times per month I reach that goal.
  • I will also give monthly averages for words written and minutes spent revising.

Here are the full numbers:

  • Jan:
    • Words: 6,501
    • Revise/Plan: 1,710
    • DWGM: 86%

It’s pretty apparent that I started 2019 respectably, but then slid slowly downhill into eunni and complacency. I’ve talked about different reasons and things for that, but I’m not getting into them here. Suffice it to say that they were basically me not choosing to push forward when I had the chance and letting things get away from me. However, having a pretty successful June as far as writing and productivity were concerned helped move me into some better numbers.

The one positive I do have to take away from things is that I’m meeting my daily writing goals far more consistently in the first half of this year as opposed to the first half of 2018. That’s a big positive, and I hope to build on that during the second half of this year. At least six more weeks of summer to get things done…

That’s all the facts and figures for tonight, everyone. I’ll get back later.
