Poetry Night at the Writing Life, 24 August 2024: About new beginnings

[AUTHOR’S NOTE: This will be the first time I’m going to be using the Substack mobile app’s new create a long form post. Wish me luck.1]

This poem for tonight is about the opportunities to come along whenever we have new beginnings. For me in recent years, that has happened for me in many ways, including coming up with new writing ideas. This time, I was inspired by the start of a new school year. Hope you enjoy.

Dawn of a School Day

In the warming twilight

As sense pushes away sleep

Everything is yet to be

Students yet to meet

Lessons still to give

Breakthroughs still to make

And the delight in the Dawn

Is that all things are possible

All goals reachable

And whatever successes, challenges, or setbacks you have

You’ll always have the dawning twilight moment.

  1. My verdict – it’s nice Substack is trying to give some ability to write posts on the mobile app, but it has nowhere near the features and usability of the desktop version. Jetpack (which I use for my WordPress site) still has better features in post creation than the Substack app. It was still a worthy experiment, and I hope they improve on it. ↩︎
